The ongoing legal dispute between Nigerian singer Peter Okoye and his elder brother, Jude Okoye, took a significant turn after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) stated that it has no evidence to support claims of fraud against the talent manager.
Peter Okoye had accused Jude Okoye, the former manager of the defunct music group P-Square, of diverting funds belonging to the group into accounts linked to him. Jude was detained by the EFCC for over two months before being granted bail while the case progressed through the courts.
During proceedings at the Lagos State Special Offences Court in Ikeja on Friday, November 28, 2025, EFCC counsel Mohammed Bashir confirmed that the commission had no documentation to substantiate the allegation that Jude misappropriated $800,000 from P-Square. Bashir emphasized that Peter Okoye would need to provide evidence for his claims, as the EFCC could not present proof it did not possess.
Meanwhile, the case dates back to 2024, when Jude and his company, Northside Music Limited, were accused of allegedly converting $1 million and £34,000 in royalties from digital music distribution and publishing belonging to P-Square. The EFCC claimed that $767,544.15, paid by Lex Records Limited for digital distribution, was allegedly misappropriated, intending to deprive Peter of his share. Jude was granted bail of N50 million on March 6, 2025.
The family dispute has also affected personal relationships within the Okoye family. Paul Okoye, Peter’s twin, reportedly sided with Jude and unfollowed Peter on social media, while the twins have stopped collaborating musically. The rift extended to their spouses, with Peter’s wife, Lola, seen aligning with Paul’s former wife, Anita Okoye, sharing photos and outings together.
Peter Okoye has continued to testify against Jude in court, further highlighting the deep divisions within the once-united music family.
