David Alaba’s sister, Rose May says family don’t grow money on trees

An Austrian-Nigerian singer Rose May Alaba, has discussed the problems she faces as the sister of Real Madrid star David Alaba.

Rose May spoke exclusively with 88.5 UFM about her experiences and the myths surrounding her family.

According to Rose, people believe her family grows money on trees, and because her surname is related to a famous football player, they are seen as a bank.

Rose May underlined that finding genuine people has been difficult, as everyone believes they have everything.

"People think my family grow money on trees" – Real Madrid star David Alaba’s sister, Rose May says

    In her words:

“To be honest, the hustle is real. Everybody wants to make money. And I feel like once people hear my last name because it’s connected to a big soccer player which is my brother [David Alaba], they see us as a bank. They think we grow money on trees. But that is not the case.

“It’s hard to find genuine people who see the vision. And I feel like you always have to believe in yourself first for them to actually help you.”

  • Nigeria vs Ivory Coast AFCON Final Match To Be Replayed

Nigeria vs Ivory Coast AFCON Final Match To Be Replayed

The Africa Cup of Nations 2023 CAF organizers have mandated a rematch of the Nigeria vs. Ivory Coast AFCON 2023 final, as the hosts entered a player who was ineligible.

The player who has not yet been named was sitting on the bench for Côte d’Ivoire, which is against CAF regulations concerning AFCON. The following rules state:

“Any nation discovered to have fielded an ineligible player in the championship game faces match cancellation or expulsion.”

In the end, the hosts defeated Nigeria 2–1 thanks to a goal by Haller.

The CAF’s statement on the subject says:

Ivory Coast fielded an illegible player, so we have already informed them that the match needs to be replayed. We believed that a repeat would be more appropriate than giving Nigeria the trophy. Later today, we will announce the final’s time and date.

  • Hearn drags Ngannou over Joshua defeat excuse

Hearn drags Ngannou over Joshua defeat excuse

Eddie Hearn has slammed Francis Ngannou for appearing to suggest that his demolishing defeat by Anthony Joshua was down to his early arrival at the arena.

Joshua knocked down the former UFC heavyweight champion three times in two rounds to secure a dominant victory in Saudi Arabia.

Ngannou, in a recent interview on the MMA Hour, said that he arrived at the Kingdom Arena, in Riyadh, two hours earlier than Joshua, appearing to suggest that this was a ‘trick’ to tire him out.

Joshua’s promoter Hearn has taken exception with the comments, suggesting the 37-year-old ‘should know better’.

“He said that he was made to come to the arena early to tire him out for the fight, which is really an inexperienced boxing guy talking here, he should know better.

“He said that he was made to come to the arena early to tire him out for the fight, which is really an inexperienced boxing guy talking here, he should know better.

“You get your time, which is the ideal time that the organiser or the broadcaster would like you there, you make your own mind up.

“Some fighters like to get there three hours before, some like to get there an hour before, it all depends on the fighter.

“If AJ is told for example that “we want you there at 10 ‘o’clock” and we know that the fight is happening at 1am, then we would come a little bit later, because he doesn’t want to be hanging around that long.’

Hearn also reacted to a social media post which contained Ngannou’s comments, stating: “I’m not sure he has come round yet.”

Ngannou after the fight confessed that he couldn’t remember being knocked out by Joshua and that from going back to his stool in between the first and second rounds, he ‘wasn’t there anymore’.

  • Boniface eager to play again

    Boniface eager to play again

Bayer Leverkusen forward, Victor Boniface, can’t wait to return to the pitch following his return to full training after he suffered an injury during Nigeria’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations preparation camp in January.

The 23-year-old was initially expected to be sidelined till around April but has now made a quick recovery from the injury and he is in line to feature in Leverkusen’s Bundesliga clash with TSG Hoffenheim this weekend.

Ahead of the match-day 27 game, Boniface acknowledged he is eager to play for his club again.

“The team did very well without me. When I came to Leverkusen, I said that I don’t look at rankings or individual scores,” Boniface said via Sport Bild.

“Of course, goals and assists are important, but the most important thing for me is to be able to help the team with my style of play and simply have fun. I really miss being on the pitch with my teammates and hope to be back soon.”

Before his injury, he registered 16 goals and eight assists in 23 appearances across all competitions for Die Werkself this season.

Boniface’s return will further drive Leverkusen’s first Bundesliga title chase as they are still unbeaten after 26 matches and they currently hold a 10-point lead ahead Bayern Munich.

Kenneth Omeruo — Super Eagles focused on World Cup qualifiers

Super Eagles defender, Kenneth Omeruo, has assured Nigerians that the players are determined to give their all for maximum points when the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers resume in June.

The Super Eagles’ team, after their friendly matches against Ghana and Mali in Marrakech, departed Morocco on Wednesday, with most of the players flying back to their bases in Europe.

After a disappointing loss to Mali, on-field captain Omeruo assured all that the players were determined to give their all for maximum points when the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers resumed in June.

Nigeria takes on the Bafana Bafana of South Africa in Uyo and then confronts Benin Republic away from home in the international window of June 3–11, in Match Days 3 and 4 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.

Omeruo said, “We went into the match against Mali determined to win, just as we did against Ghana.

“In the end, they took their chances, and we failed to take ours. That’s football. You just have to take the chances that come your way.

“Having said that, June is only a few weeks away, and we are focused on the matches against South Africa and the Benin Republic.

“Many players in the group have not played at the World Cup before, and they see this as a big opportunity to be there.

“We cannot afford to let ourselves and the nation down,.”

Currently, Nigeria occupies the third spot in Group C with two points from two games played so far. They are tied with Lesotho and Zimbabwe, who also have two points each.

Table-toppers Rwanda are on four points. They are closely followed by South Africa on three points.

Benin is at the bottom of the table with one point.

The top finisher in each of the nine groups will qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, while one of the best losers will participate in the FIFA Play-off tournament.

The Africa Zone (CAF) qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World, which began on November 15, 2023, is expected to end in November 2025.

  • Finidi: “I’m not under pressure to coach Eagles”

Finidi: “I’m not under pressure to coach Eagles”

Head coach of the Nigeria Premier Football Leagues side Enyimba, Finidi George has stated that he is not losing any sleep over getting the Super Eagles job on a permanent basis, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Early this month, the Nigeria Football Federation declared the position of the Super Eagles’ head coach vacant, following the exit of Portuguese Jose Peseiro, who led the side to a second-place finish at the 2023 Africa Cup Nations in Ivory Coast in February.

In an advertisement on its website calling for applications with a March 13 deadline, the football governing body stated that the prospective Eagles coach “must have proven experience at the elite level of football.”

The former Ajax man, who also applied for the job, was appointed Eagles interim coach for the international window with the former winger picking a win and suffering a defeat.

In an interview with Modo TV, the 52-year-old tactician said he was not desperate for the job permanently.

“I felt really good when I was told to take charge of the team. I have been with the team for almost two years, I know all the players, their strengths, and their weaknesses but I am only here to serve Nigeria the way I know how to do stuff.

“I will just take these two games and go back to my club. Whatever the decision is taken after, so be it. I’m not under pressure to say I must get the role permanently.”

Finidi also admitted that his team paid dearly for their mistakes in their 2-0 defeat to Mali at the Stade de Marrakech in Morocco on Tuesday.

“I think we made a few mistakes that cost us the match,” the 52-year-old tactician told Modo TV.

“It wasn’t a bad game, good intensity was exhibited and we created a couple of chances but failed to score. In a game like this when you make mistakes and fail to score you get punished but I was happy with the entire play.

“The formation wasn’t bad at all; this is a team that keeps the ball very well. Using two strikers helped us and forced them to play wide. We could have pressed a bit more but overall, we weren’t bad. We know football is all about victory but I am looking at other aspects.

“Not a bad performance, lost one, won one. We were not outplayed and that is a good thing. I think we did so well in the first (half) although I would have loved a different outcome in the second but the players performed well.”

Olivier Giroud to join Los Angeles FC after AC Milan contract expires next June

Olivier Giroud will leave AC Milan for Major League Soccer (MLS) outfit Los Angeles FC (LAFC), as reported by L’Equipe.

The 37-year-old is set to reunite with his former France teammate and close friend Hugo Lloris in California, with Lloris having joined LAFC earlier this year.

While paper works are yet to be finalized, reports suggest LAFC has been diligently working to secure Giroud’s signature, as his contract with Milan expires next June.

If the move becomes successful, it will mark the end of Giroud’s storied career in Europe.

  • Joshua eyes potential fight with Hrgovic or Dubois for IBF heavyweight world title

Joshua eyes potential fight with Hrgovic or Dubois for IBF heavyweight world title

Boxer, Anthony Joshua finds himself in a position to potentially vie for the IBF heavyweight world title against either Filip Hrgovic or Daniel Dubois.

Reports indicate that Croatian contender and the IBF mandatory challenger Hrgovic, is poised to risk his position by taking on young British prospect Dubois in Saudi Arabia on June 1.

For Joshua, the clash between Hrgovic and Dubois holds significant implications, as the winner could potentially become his opponent for a vacant heavyweight world title.

Having earned his mandatory challenger status by defeating Zhang in 2022, Hrgovic has patiently awaited his shot at the title.

However, the likelihood of the IBF belt becoming vacant opens the door for Joshua to enter the fray as the next highest available contender.

Yet, Dubois presents a formidable challenge and has the opportunity to disrupt the narrative by defeating Hrgovic.

In such scenario, the IBF could order a showdown between Joshua and Dubois for the vacant heavyweight world title.
