  • Dangote seeks approval to build Nigeria’s largest deep seaport in Ogun

Dangote seeks approval to build Nigeria’s largest deep seaport in Ogun

Richest man, in Africa Aliko Dangote, is seeking regulatory approval to build what would become Nigeria’s largest and deepest seaport in Olokola, Ogun State, in a bold move to expand his industrial and export operations.

According to Bloomberg, the proposed Atlantic seaport, expected to transform Nigeria’s maritime logistics, will be situated about 100 kilometres from Dangote’s massive fertiliser and petrochemical complex in Lagos.

It is designed to significantly improve the group’s export capabilities and serve as a strategic hub for Dangote’s growing footprint in fertilizer, petrochemicals, and future liquefied natural gas (LNG) operations.

In a recent interview, Dangote confirmed that his group submitted paperwork in late June to initiate the project, describing it as “the biggest, deepest port in Nigeria.”

“It’s not that we want to do everything by ourselves, but I believe this kind of investment will inspire other entrepreneurs to get involved too,” he said.

Currently, Dangote exports fertilizer and urea through a private jetty near his refinery. The new port is expected to integrate and expand those logistics, potentially rivalling major ports like the Chinese-backed Lekki Deep Sea Port, which began operations in 2023.

In addition to fertiliser exports, Dangote is planning to venture into LNG exports from Lagos, a move that would require the construction of pipelines from the gas-rich Niger Delta to the southern coast.

“We want to do a major project to bring in more gas than what NLNG is doing today. We know where there is a lot of gas, so we’ll run a pipeline all the way and bring it to the shore,” he said, referencing Nigeria LNG Ltd., the country’s largest LNG exporter.

Dangote currently uses natural gas from the Niger Delta as a feedstock for his fertilizer plant’s hydrogen production, a critical element in ammonia and urea manufacturing.

He emphasized that transformative projects like this, guided by bold vision and long-term strategy, are essential to reshaping Africa’s economic future.

Earlier this year, Dangote projected that his conglomerate is on course to generate $30 billion in annual revenue by 2026 and expressed confidence in overtaking Qatar to become the world’s leading urea exporter within four years.

  • US to revoke green cards from Nigerians, other nationals

US to revoke green cards from Nigerians, other nationals

The US government has warned Green Card holders, with criminal histories risk losing their residency status and facing deportation.

This decision follows recent changes to Nigerian visa policies by the US embassy.

The latest decision focuses on individuals with crimes involving dishonesty, fraud, or reprehensible behavior.

Additionally, green card holders may lose their status if they spend over 12 months outside the US without proper documentation or intent to maintain residency, which can be considered abandonment of their permanent resident status.

Furthermore, US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) warned that lawful permanent residents with prior criminal convictions may face mandatory detention upon attempting to re-enter the US at a port of entry.

Notably, this move highlights the US government’s strict approach to immigration compliance and enforcement of existing laws regarding immigration violations.

  • FG to US: “Reverse your harsh visa policy against Nigerians”

FG to US: “Reverse your harsh visa policy against Nigerians”

The Federal Government (FG) of Nigeria has expressed concern over the United States’ recent move to tighten visa restrictions for Nigerian citizens, calling on Washington to reconsider the decision in the spirit of mutual respect and long-standing bilateral ties.

The U.S. government had earlier announced a revision of its visa reciprocity schedule for Nigerians, limiting the validity of key non-immigrant visa categories including B1/B2 (business and tourism), F (student), and J (exchange visitor) — to three months with single entry.

Reacting to the development, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on Wednesday through its spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, expressing the Nigerian government’s disappointment over the policy change.

“The attention of the Federal Government of Nigeria has been drawn to the recent decision by the United States Government to revise its visa reciprocity schedule for Nigerian citizens, limiting the validity of non-immigrant visas, including B1/B2, F, and J categories to three months with single entry,” the statement read.

“The Federal Government views this development with concern and keen interest, particularly given the longstanding cordial relations and strong people-to-people ties between our two countries.”

The government noted that the decision appears to contradict the principles of reciprocity, equity, and mutual respect that are expected to guide engagements between friendly nations.

Ebienfa warned that the policy could significantly affect Nigerians seeking education in the U.S., professionals engaged in legitimate business, and families with loved ones abroad.

“The decision appears misaligned with the principles of reciprocity, equity, and mutual respect that should guide bilateral engagements between friendly nations,” he stated.

“While acknowledging the sovereign right of every country to determine its immigration policies, Nigeria respectfully urges the United States to reconsider this decision in the spirit of partnership, cooperation, and shared global responsibilities.”

The Federal Government stressed that the new restriction could hamper academic and cultural exchanges that have historically strengthened ties between both countries.

The statement also confirmed that diplomatic efforts are already underway to address the matter.

“Diplomatic engagements are ongoing, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs remains committed to pursuing a resolution that reflects fairness and upholds the values of mutual interest,” the ministry said.

The call comes amid growing concerns from affected Nigerian citizens, especially students and business travellers, who may now face greater difficulty accessing opportunitie

    s in the United States.

  • Lady accuses Afro Nation of ‘theft’ after $1,105 ticket was canceled with no refund

Lady accuses Afro Nation of ‘theft’ after $1,105 ticket was canceled with no refund

Lady has accused Afro Nation of “stealing” from her after her $1,105 Golden Ticket for the Portugal edition of the music festival was canceled without a refund.

According to her, she bought the Golden Ticket for the event scheduled for July 9th–11th, but couldn’t attend due to personal reasons.

She reached out to the organizers via email and was told, “The only way to get my money back was to transfer the ticket because I didn’t pay for the protection on my ticket.”

She agreed and initiated the ticket transfer process but said she didn’t receive any update.

Concerned, she contacted her bank, Amex, for assistance. “Which they did,” she wrote, adding that the bank tried to contact Afro Nation, but the organizers didn’t respond. As a result, Amex temporarily refunded the money.

However, weeks later, the charge was reversed.

“When I called my bank to see why that is, they explained to me that @afronation got back to them and the charge was valid.”

With no other option, she started planning to attend the event in Portugal, but last-minute flight prices were too expensive.

She then considered reselling or giving away the ticket. But upon checking, she discovered it had been canceled.

“When I clicked on the link, it showed that the ticket has been canceled and I believe they canceled it when I got the refund from my bank and I didn’t know.”

Fuming over the situation, she asked: “How do you cancel a ticket I paid for and don’t wanna refund me?”

She added, “Now, even if I wanted to attend the festival, I can’t because I don’t have a ticket.”

Calling out the organizers, she described the situation as “pure theft,” accusing them of “clearing stealing” from her.

She pleaded with them: “All I want is a refund since the ticket has been canceled and cannot be reinstated. $1,100 is a lot of money for me to let go!” “@afronation please do the right thing and refund me my money!”

She also claimed to have provided proof of the cancellation and an email from Afro Nation confirming the action but refusing to issue a refund. “Guys here is a proof that they canceled my ticket. And here is an email of them admitting to canceling my ticket but won’t refund me….. arghh… I’m so upset. @afronation please refund me my money!!!!”

  • Wike: Peter Obi can’t be president

Wike: Peter Obi can’t be president

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has thrown jabs at former presidential candidate Peter Obi, insisting that he can no longer become Nigeria‘s president.

Wike made this known in a statement shared on Sunday, as seen in a post by a user, @ChuksEricE, on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.

He was addressing the opposition’s move to form a coalition aimed at taking over power from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general election.

While reacting to the proposed coalition, Wike first blasted former Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, stating that he had no moral ground to criticize the state of the country.

According to him, Aregbesola failed to fix key sectors while in office.

These are the same people that want to rescue Nigeria. You were the minister of interior but under you, the international passport—people would spend weeks, months, even years before they could get one,” he said.

Shifting his focus to Peter Obi, Wike dismissed his chances of ever becoming president, citing his record as a former governor.

“For eight years, he was governor, and he didn’t conduct a single local government election. Never. Only you, governor of all the local governments,” Wike said.

He further criticized Obi’s constant movement across political parties, saying:

In 1999, you were in the party. In 2006, you were in another party. In 2014, you moved to another party. In 2019, you came back to another one. In 2025, you’re moving again—to rescue who?”

Let’s tell ourselves the truth. Some of you are fighting for somebody you don’t even know,” he added.

The video, which has since gone viral, sparked a wave of reactions online as Nigerians flooded the comment section to share their views.

    See some reactions below:

@de_godfella: “Nah,for church ? Is he a spokesman or a Minister for Chris sake.”
