Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu has launched the Lagos State Revenue Portal (LRP), a platform designed to simplify and streamline all non-tax revenue payments for all Lagosians.

The LRP is an online platform provided by the state government to empower residents to access various services related to revenue payments across its Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

It will also allow individuals and businesses in the state to access bills and make payments for levies, and other government fees in a convenient and efficient manner from the comfort of their homes and offices.

Recall that the Special Adviser on Revenue and Taxation, Abdulkabir Opeyemi Ogungbo had last week unveiled the LRP in the presence of stakeholder and pressmen at the Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja.

Speaking shortly before the official launch of the platform, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu described it as yet another milestone in his administration’s effort to transform Lagos into the most business-friendly state in Nigeria.

He added that the innovation aligns with his administration’s broader ambition of making Lagos a really smart state where growth and development are innovation-driven.

“The launch of the Lagos Revenue Portal (LRP) represents our commitment to innovation, transparency, and ease of doing business in Lagos State.” He said.
Describing the innovation as a game changer, Sanwo-Olu noted that it is designed to streamline the payer enumeration process, making it easier for individuals and businesses to comply with their tax obligations.

“By simplifying this process, we are removing barriers to compliance, which will, in turn, boost our revenue base. But more than that, we are promoting a culture of accountability and transparency in revenue collection.”
Noting that the LRP is more than just a platform; Sanwo-Olu added: “It is a game-changer.

“It is designed to streamline the payer enumeration process, making it easier for individuals and businesses to comply with their tax obligations.

“By simplifying this process, we are removing barriers to compliance, which will, in turn, boost our revenue base. But more than that, we are promoting a culture of accountability and transparency in revenue collection.

“This portal aligns with our broader vision of making Lagos a smart city—a place where technology and innovation drive progress.

By digitising our revenue collection process, we are not only enhancing the ease of doing business but also positioning Lagos as a model for other states in Nigeria and beyond.

We are setting a standard for governance that leverages technology to deliver efficient and transparent services to the people”. Said the Governor.

Sanwo-Olu also commended the entire Lagos State Executive Council, Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology, Ministry of Finance, State Treasury Office, Lagos State Internal Revenue Service, the Audit Service Commission, Alpha-Beta Consulting, and the Special Adviser on Taxation and Revenue for their unwavering dedication to this project.

He then urger every Lagosian—whether an individual, entrepreneur, or corporate entity—own and embrace the innovation, saying that: “The success of this platform depends on its adoption by the people it is designed to serve”
Also speaking at the event, Special Adviser to the Governor on Taxation and Revenue Abdulkabir Ogungbo, highlighted the features of the revenue portal.

Among others, he said innovation empowers citizens to perform their civic responsibility of bills payment across state MDAs online, eliminating the need for physical visits to Lagos State service stations and bank branches, saving time and reducing hassle for their taxpayers.

He explained that every payer receives an Instant Revenue Receipt after successful payment and also allows them to seamlessly validate these receipts to avoid paying to the wrong hands.

The portal facilitates easy payer registration, so Individuals and businesses can now register as payers and access their profiles online, simplifying the entire registration process

He added: “The LRP allows for amendment and reversal requests, on payments, which significantly reduces errors and disputes along the transaction value-chain, payers, banks and MDAs.”
He also stated that the LRP is available on both secure web and mobile application channels.

The platform is designed to simplify how Lagos residents and corporate entities perform their civic responsibilities in the form of non-tax payments, making the entire process more efficient, convenient and secure.

Bosun Alake, Commissioner for Innovation,Science and Technology, noted that the launch of LRP is a testament to the fact that the Sanwo-Olu administration is truly in the business of ensuring ease of doing business.

“The Managing director, Alpha Beta Consulting, Barrister Akinsanya Doherty, commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for his people centric programs. Noting that the LRP will ensure seamless interaction between the State Government and the paying public.

In his goodwill message, Chairman of the State’s House of Assembly committee on Finance Hon Femi Saheed, noting that the state’s budget, running on innovative revenue generation drive, has grown by 50 percent since the beginning of the Sanwo-Olu administration.

He consequently commended the executive arm for running a workable budget, while also expressing satisfaction at the performance of the current 2024 budget.
