The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors NARD said members in all its branches domiciled mainly in federal and state-owned teaching hospitals, specialist hospitals and public health institutions have been alerted to the #EndBadGovernance protest starting nationwide from today (Thursday).

The President of NARD, Dr Dele Abdullahi, disclosed this in a telephone interview with The PUNCH on Wednesday.

Abdullahi said though the association was not joining the protest, its members were ready to offer medical treatment for protesters who may be injured.

He said, “We appreciate the intention of the people to attend the protest, but as an association, we did not make any decision to join the protest.

“However, if there are victims or anybody we will need to attend to in case of any injury sustained as a result of the protest, we have already discussed this in our congress, and most of our centres have been put on red alert in preparation for emergencies.

“Protesters may sustain injuries and we can promise that all our members are ready to attend to them, all our hands are on deck to ensure we safeguard the lives of the injured.”

A number of civil society organisations, including the Take It Back Movement, have vowed to embark on a 10-day nationwide strike to compel the government to take action to alleviate the worsening economic situation in the country.
