Dangote Group Warns Truck Drivers Against Unauthorized Logo Use, Threatens Legal Action

Popular Dangote Industries Limited (DIL) has once again warned truck drivers against the unauthorised display of its logo on their vehicles, citing reputational damage and public confusion as major concerns.

The company stated that despite previous warnings, some truckers with no affiliation to Dangote continue to use the logo, often for personal gain or undisclosed reasons.

Some of these trucks have reportedly been involved in incidents that were mistakenly attributed to the company, causing serious embarrassment.

To address the issue, Dangote said it will step up monitoring efforts in collaboration with law enforcement and relevant security agencies and will take legal action against offenders.

We have repeatedly cautioned truckers to refrain from using our logo on unauthorised vehicles. Moving forward, we will increase vigilance and take decisive legal action against misuse of our brand identity, particularly concerning vehicles unaffiliated with the Dangote Group,” the company said.

Dangote also raised concerns over misinformation, urging the public and media to verify facts before sharing reports, especially those wrongly linking road accidents to its fleet.

The Dangote Group operates one of Africa’s largest commercial truck fleets, with more than 12,000 trucks in Nigeria, including over 3,000 owned by third-party contractors.

On any given day, more than 6,000 vehicles are actively engaged in supporting the company’s logistics network, which sustains over 36,000 direct and indirect jobs.

Kenneth Okonkwo Discloses Why Peter Obi Vowed to Serve Only One Term

A member of the opposition coalition and former Labour Party chieftain, Kenneth Okonkwo, has claimed that Peter Obi’s pledge to serve only one term if elected president was a calculated political strategy to win northern support.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Friday, the veteran actor-turned-politician argued that Obi understood the need to make such a promise in order not to alienate northern voters.

Okonkwo explained that in Nigeria’s political climate, any opposition party seeking to defeat an incumbent must assure all regions that no side would feel sidelined.

So I brought the theory as a way for any opposition party to inspire Nigerians to know that each side will not lose when they make any choice, whether North or South,” he said.

He further stated that the idea of a one-term presidency was not unique to Obi, pointing out that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar had made a similar pledge in the past.

“It was even Atiku Abubakar that first of all said he was going to do one term, then Peter Obi now keyed into it because he knows that if he, as a younger person, does not make that promise, he loses the entire North. So it’s purely a political strategy,” Okonkwo added.

According to him, Obi’s stance was meant to reassure Nigerians that his presidency would not “shortchange” any part of the country, but rather complete the South’s eight-year tenure before power rotates again.

  • Nationwide Ban on Single-Use Textbooks Urged for Sustainable Education

Nationwide Ban on Single-Use Textbooks Urged for Sustainable Education

As schools reopen this September after the long break, parents in Imo, Benue, Anambra, and Ondo states have a reason to breathe a sigh of relief, thanks to the recent ban on non-reusable textbooks

This policy allows used schoolbooks to be passed down to younger siblings or other students, reversing a practice that had previously forced parents to buy new textbooks every academic session.

The aim is to make textbooks reusable, especially for younger siblings progressing to higher classes. This shift is expected to ease financial pressure on households and promote sustainability in education.

Benue State pioneered this initiative three weeks ago. According to Helen Nambativ, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Knowledge Management, the decision is intended to reduce the economic strain on families and refocus attention on children’s academic development.

The policy will take effect from the first term of the 2025/2026 academic session.

Following Benue’s lead, Anambra State has also implemented the ban. The Commissioner for Education, Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, announced a capacity-building workshop for private school proprietors and teachers to support the change.

Nigerian families continue to struggle with the economic downturn, especially in meeting their children’s educational needs. While no parent wants their child to fall behind academically, the soaring cost of textbooks, sometimes nearly as high as school fees, has made this difficult.

In many cases, policies blocking the use of books from older siblings have added to this financial stress. Some students attend classes without textbooks or are forced to drop out temporarily until their parents can afford the newly mandated editions.

For many Nigerians who attended school in the 1980s, ’90s, and early 2000s, wrapping textbook covers to preserve them for younger siblings was a cherished tradition. There was a shared sense of responsibility and continuity in passing books from one child to the next.

Unfortunately, this practice began to fade when school owners and publishers started designing textbooks that required students to write directly in them, effectively making the books unusable for subsequent students.

Recently, schools have also switched publishers frequently, ensuring that previously used textbooks become obsolete, even if the content remains largely unchanged. This has placed an undue financial burden on parents, especially those with multiple children in the same school.

Previously, publishers supplemented textbooks with workbooks and activity sheets for students to write on, leaving the main textbooks intact for reuse. Today, the merging of workbooks with textbooks has eliminated that option.

This issue highlights the role of publishers. Many have capitalised on the demand for new textbooks each year, especially at the start of a new session, partnering directly with schools to guarantee annual profits.

Some school owners prohibit parents from purchasing textbooks from outside vendors, even when they are cheaper.

They control the market by withholding textbook lists until resumption and insisting that only books bought from the school’s designated shop are acceptable.

Even more concerning is the widespread use of textbooks not approved by the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council, which regulates educational materials.

This undermines national educational standards and creates confusion for learners switching between unstandardised books. The NERDC must ensure publishers produce creative, innovative, and tech-integrated materials aligned with national goals.

Publishers worried about reduced revenue from reusable textbooks can explore alternative revenue streams, such as developing novel educational content, building educational apps, and expanding digital offerings to schools and learners.

The ban on non-transferable textbooks in these four states is a welcome development that should be replicated nationwide.

By doing so, Nigeria can return to a more equitable and financially inclusive education system where no child is left behind simply because their parents cannot afford new books.

  • Tinubu Claims Reforms Have Elevated Nigeria’s Global Standing

Tinubu Claims Reforms Have Elevated Nigeria’s Global Standing

President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday said his administration’s bold economic reforms, which aim to restore Nigeria to its enviable position, are achieving favourable results.

He added that the country’s economy is now stable and attracting interest from around the world.

“The bleeding has stopped. Haemorrhage is gone; the patient is alive,” Tinubu said when he received the Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Ghandi Olaoye, Orumogege III, in audience with some other royal fathers, at the State House, Abuja.

The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed details of the meeting in a statement he signed on Wednesday titled ‘In just two years, Nigeria is now respected globally.’

President Tinubu said, “Years of neglect and self-deception, fake records, smuggling, and all of that denied Nigeria the necessary revenue for progress and development.

“Then we were confronted again with arbitrage trading of currency, an illusion of selling papers, corruption all over the place, and the integrity of the country and its economy being extremely and adversely challenged.

“We had to take those actions. With your prayers, patience, perseverance and great understanding, I’m glad to tell you today that the economy is stabilised.”

The President also said the establishment of NELFUND was to ensure that no student would drop out because of poverty.

He affirmed that everybody has a right to education as it is the “greatest weapon you can give to human beings against poverty.”

“That’s what we are doing. We have remained aggressive on our infrastructure. And it’s just two years,” he said.

President Tinubu thanked the monarch for crediting his administration with the bold decisions taken immediately upon resumption of office.

He noted that the people of Ogbomoso land were already feeling the modernisation and transformation introduced by the monarch, who promised to strengthen traditional institutions.

The President also promised to engage the Ministers of Power, Water Resources, Agriculture, and Works to look into the visiting monarch’s requests, stating they can make Nigeria self-sufficient in agriculture.

The Soun commended the President for his incredible strides, which “only a bold leader could have recorded. Removing fuel subsidy has shown us that it is the right decision, and we can see the effects.”

Oba Olaoye said the foreign exchange reforms and introduction of NELFUND had made it easier for many students to continue their schooling without considering dropping out.

The monarch also commended the President for awarding the contract for dualisation of the Oyo-Ogbomosho Road, which had been abandoned for decades, pointing out that the road would spur economic activities as a significant gateway to the North.

The paramount ruler, however, requested the President’s intervention in the water and power supply in Ogbomoso, the upgrading of the General Hospital in the town into a Federal Medical Centre, as well as the establishment of a research institute to enhance the development and transformation of the famous ‘Ogbomoso mangoes and cashew nuts’ into a viable agricultural enterprise.

Oba Olaoye thanked the President for appointing Ogbomoso sons to his administration, notably the Federal Inland Revenue Service Chairman, Zacch Adedeji, and the DG of the Bureau of Public Procurement, Debo Adedokun.

On the entourage of the Soun of Ogbomosoland were five other kings representing the five councils in Ogbomoso land, namely Samuel Otolorin, the Areago of Ogbomosoland; Oba Oyetunji Adeyeye, the Alajaawa of Ajaawa; Oba Bolarinwa Olajide, the Onisapa of Isapa; Oba Babatunde Amao, the Aale Oke-elerin, and Oba Prof. Akinola John Akintola, the Olokin-apa of Okin-apa.

Other High Chiefs were Ogundare Rebecca, Iyalode of Ogbomosoland; Prof. Sola Adepoju, former DG Forestry Research Institute of Nigeria; Tunji Olaniyi, a businessman; and Abdul Ganiyu Owodunni, the Aare Musulumi of Ogbomosoland.

Also present was the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, a prominent ‘son of the soil’ who doubles as the Agbaakin of Ogbomoso land.
