Mikel Merino’s goal in extra time sealed Spain a dramatic 2-1 win over Germany, ending the hosts’ Euro 2024 campaign.

The Friday evening quarter-final clash seemed destined for a penalty shootout until the 119th minute, when substitute Merino rose to head home the winning goal.

Dani Olmo delivered the assist, after scoring for the Spanish side in normal time, silencing the crowd at Stuttgart Arena.

After a goalless first half, Olmo broke the deadlock six minutes into the second half with a precise shot into the bottom corner.
