VeryDarkMan fires back, challenges Falz’s family to sue him over leaked audio implicating them

Online personality, VeryDarkMan has refused to back down, and challenged Falz’s family to sue him over leaked audio implicating them in Bobrisky‘s bribery claims.

Following threats of legal action from Falz’s sister against VeryDarkMan, he released a response video that has further fueled the drama.

VeryDarkMan fires back, challenges Falz's family to sue him over leaked audio implicating them
    Online personality, VeryDarkMan.

In the recording, Bobrisky allegedly claimed to have bribed officials from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and to have served his sentence in a private apartment rather than in prison.

Additionally, Bobrisky purportedly offered N10 million to both Falz and his father, renowned lawyer Femi Falana, in a bid to evade incarceration.

Falz has since denied these allegations, while his sister has vowed to pursue legal action against VeryDarkMan for disseminating the recording.

In his response video, VeryDarkMan questioned the outrage from Falz’s family, pointing out that their names were mentioned in the audio.

He challenged them to take legal action, stating, “Was your father’s name not in the recording? Was Falz’s name not in the recording?… If it’s too bad, you can lock me up for 6 months or 1 year.”

This latest development has added another layer to the ongoing saga involving Bobrisky’s assertions and the Falz family’s rebuttals, igniting widespread debate and discussion among the public.

Bobrisky allegedly spent just 3 weeks in Kirikiri prison, guarded like a president

Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, popularly known as Bobrisky, a Nigerian transgender woman, reportedly spent only three weeks in prison despite receiving a six-month sentence for naira abuse in April, according to FIJ NG.

Recently, a social media user known as Martins Vincent Otse, or VeryDarkMan, shared a phone conversation in which Bobrisky admitted to serving her sentence outside of prison after allegedly paying N15 million to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to have charges of ‘money laundering’ dismissed against her.

Bobrisky allegedly spent just 3 weeks in Kirikiri prison, guarded like a president
    Online personality, Bobrisky.

This revelation has reignited discussions about corruption within Nigerian prisons, prompting Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo to call for an “unconditional and comprehensive investigation into allegations of bribery and corruption” within the Nigerian Correctional Service.

Sources familiar with the situation informed FIJ that although Bobrisky was taken to Kirikiri in April following her sentencing, she left after just three weeks and was officially released in August.

A prison official revealed, “Bob spent only three weeks here with us in Kirikiri before she was taken out to another place we don’t know. That was where she spent her time; it was an ‘arrange thing’. And money was involved.”

The source described how Bobrisky received VIP treatment during her time in custody, stating, “She was guarded like a president,” and noted that she lived in a special cell. They confirmed that the payment she mentioned was legitimate.

These claims align with findings from a 2019 undercover investigation by FIJ founder ‘Fisayo Soyombo, who discovered that it was possible to pay for luxuries such as furnished cells and the ability to bring in prohibited items while incarcerated.

An incident involving a video call highlighted the unusual circumstances surrounding Bobrisky’s imprisonment. A fellow inmate accidentally recorded her during a call, leading to severe punishment for him.

Confusion arose when James Brown, another crossdresser, claimed to have visited Bobrisky in prison on June 8. However, a source from James’ camp clarified that she was not in prison at that time. Instead, James visited another inmate to record a song.

As of now, the Nigerian Correctional Service has neither confirmed nor denied the allegations surrounding Bobrisky’s imprisonment.

However, the interior ministry announced the suspension of two deputy controllers of corrections for their handling of the case, signaling a move toward further investigation.

Prison experts — Why Bobrisky was separated from other inmates

Prison experts have clarified why controversial crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, was separated from other inmates at the correctional centre while denying claims of a VIP section.

Speaking on Arise TV’s The Morning Show on Friday, the Director General of the Prison Rehabilitation Mission, Bishop Kayode Williams, explained the accommodations provided for inmates based on different categories.

He said, “There are accommodations for condemned prisoners, those sentenced to death, who must not mingle with other inmates. The second accommodation is convicted inmates, who are the owners of the prison.”

Addressing Bobrisky’s situation, Williams added, “The accommodation that is provided for males, are they going to bring Idris with his transgender body /look to go and sleep in the general cell? The first thing they do is decide how to treat someone like that.

“They provided him a special place for protective custody because, with his appearance, he would be in danger. He looks like a woman, moves like a woman, and there are homosexual inmates who would be willing to take things to extreme lengths.”

Former National PRO of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Francis Enobore, corroborated Williams’ comments, explaining that the service profiles each inmate for both their safety and the general prison environment.

“Yes, he confessed in court that he is a man but he came in bodily showing that he is a woman. Some of the people behind bars are unrepentant homosexuals. There is no doubt that if care is not taken, we will have a very serious security situation on our hands,” he said.

However, Enobore refuted claims of Bobrisky being given a private section, stating, “There’s no such thing as a private apartment or anything special in the prison.”

Controversy around Bobrisky’s incarceration began earlier in the week after Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, shared a voice note in which Bobrisky allegedly claimed that following his conviction for abuse of naira notes in April, his godfather, along with the Controller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, arranged for him to serve his six-month sentence in a private apartment.

Meanwhile, the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board announced on Thursday the suspension of two deputy controllers in charge of the Kirikiri Medium Custodial Centre in Lagos, in connection to Bobrisky’s alleged bribery claims.

  • Bobrisky: Minister orders bribery allegation probe, Falana threatens lawsuit

Bobrisky: Minister orders bribery allegation probe, Falana threatens lawsuit

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on Wednesday, ordered a thorough investigation into allegations of bribery within the Nigerian Correctional Service.

Although the minister did not mention any specific case, his directive comes on the heels of a voice note shared by Martins Otse, a.k.a. VeryDarkMan, in which Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, claimed that after his conviction and sentencing for abuse of the naira notes in April, his godfather, in collaboration with the Controller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, arranged for him to serve his six-month sentence in a private apartment.

This was as human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), denied any involvement with Bobrisky and gave VeryDarkMan a 24-hour ultimatum to retract the statement he made linking him to Bobrisky.

“We wish to state, without any fear of contradiction, that our client (Falana) has never, in his life, spoken to Brobrisky on his alleged pardon or on any matter whatsoever,” Falana’s lawyer stated in their letter to VeryDarkMan demanding a retraction and an apology.

In a voice note played online by VeryDarkMan, a voice, believed to be Bobrisky’s, was heard saying:  “There’s jealousy involved. When I got to court, I admitted guilt, hoping for either a fine or community service. However, the court sentenced me. On my way to prison, my godfather called and assured me I wouldn’t enter prison. He told me not to worry and said he would arrange an apartment near the prison and speak to the Comptroller General of Prisons in Abuja.

“After they spoke, I was taken to an apartment where I was told not to come out until I finished my sentence. They informed the person at the apartment that their boss instructed them to keep me there and not let me leave. The person said he’d collect N10m, so I had to call Elele again. Elele gave me N2m because there was no one else to call.”

In the same viral voice note, Bobrisky also allegedly claimed that he paid a N15m bribe to officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to drop money laundering charges against him, leaving only abuse of naira charges, of which he was convicted and sentenced.

According to the voice note, he also allegedly claimed to have been contacted by the rap musician, Falz, and his human rights lawyer father, Falana, who proposed to help him seek the Federal Government’s pardon for a N10m fee.

Reacting to the raging controversy in a statement on Wednesday by his media aide, Alao Babatunde, the interior minister ordered an immediate probe, stressing that no form of indiscipline would be condoned under his watch.

“The Minister of Interior has directed an unconditional and comprehensive investigation into the allegations of bribery and corruption within the Nigerian Correctional Service.

“Tunji-Ojo unequivocally condemned the alleged reprehensible behaviour, emphasising that any form of indiscipline, unprofessionalism, or corruption will be met with zero tolerance and severe consequences within the paramilitary services under the ministry’s purview.

“The ministry will not tolerate any compromise on its core values of integrity, transparency, and accountability. We will leave no stone unturned in rooting out corruption and ensuring that those found culpable face the full wrath of the law,” Alao said in the statement.

He added that the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Magdalene Ajani, would head the team investigating the allegations.

He said, “The minister has called for a special investigative team, headed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, to probe these allegations and submit a comprehensive report.

“The minister reassures the public that the investigation will be rigorous, transparent, and impartial, and that appropriate disciplinary actions will be taken against any personnel found guilty.”

Meanwhile, Falana has written a pre-action letter to VeryDarkMan, who disseminated the vote note, demanding a retraction of the alleged defamatory statement against him.

In a letter, written on his behalf by Taiwo Olawanle of Falana and Falana Chambers, the SAN gave the social media influencer 24 hours to retract the statement and tender an apology or he would face legal action.

The letter read partly: “We are counsel for Mr Femi Falana SAN (hereinafter referred to as “our client”), on whose behalf we write this letter regarding your publication and dissemination of defamatory statements against him.

“Your publication of September 25, 2024, on your Instagram page captioned ‘In everything and everyone that is mentioned here, I will be disappointed if truly FALZ and his father are involved in this whole Bobrisky issue…’ refers.

“In publishing the statement on several online platforms, you informed your large viewership that Mr. Femi Falana ‘spoke to Bobrisky in order to divert justice’.

“Your publication contained multiple allegations and that you did not expect Mr Femi Falana, who was a lawyer to the late Fela Anikulapo Kuti, whom everyone respects, to ‘engage in something like this?’.

“Your publication further alleged that Mr Femi Falana SAN wanted to get a presidential pardon for Bobrisky for the sum of N10,000,000.00.

“As if that was not enough, you proceeded to state as follows: ‘I don’t even believe that Femi Falana would bring himself down to this level, the whole Femi Falana would engage himself with something like this’… ‘The man started the pardon and he said he wanted to send it to the Minister of Justice in Abuja, who will send it to the President to approve it but you know Nigeria with corruption.’

“’Femi FALANA collected N10,000,000 in order to wipe his name off record. These are people I respected. These are people I look up to…it is obvious that Nigeria will not go anywhere soon.’”

The letter said the social media post by VeryDarkMan portrayed Falana in a bad light as “the direct meaning of the imputation, and/or innuendo contained in the false, misleading and defamatory statements is that: Mr Femi Falana is deceitful and that his motivation for fighting against injustice and corruption in Nigeria and entire Africa is a ruse.

“Mr Femi Falana spoke to Bobrisky to divert justice (sic) with a view to perverting justice for financial gains and material benefits.

“Mr. Femi Falana solicited a brief from Bobrisky and thereby contravened the Legal Practitioner Rules of Professional Conduct.

“Mr Femi Falana has participated in a device that constitutes subterfuge in concert with others who you also characterised as corrupt.”

“Mr Falana’s fight against injustice is inconsistent with his publicly acclaimed and validated record of competence, honesty and integrity.”

“Mr Falana, who is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, has engaged in conduct that is incompatible with his professional role and duty as a legal practitioner in Nigeria.”

The chamber described VeryDarkMan’s  publication as “a vicious, wicked and reckless ploy to impugn the reputation of our client and lower him in the estimation of right-thinking members of the public.”

It said while the social media influencer had the fundamental right to freedom of expression guaranteed by the Nigerian Constitution, “you are duty bound to ensure that what you publish and disseminate is credible and factual in every material particular. In other words, you have no right under the law to damage the reputation of any citizen by spreading baseless allegations based on sheer falsehood.”

The lawyers, therefore,  “demand immediate retraction of the offensive and derogatory publication as well as an apology prominently published in all the platforms to which you have disseminated it without any justification whatsoever.”

“Be advised that if we do not receive your formal retraction and apology as demanded within 24 hours of the receipt hereof, we shall proceed with our client’s instructions to seek appropriate legal remedies, including monetary damages, against you for your incendiary publication and dissemination of defamatory statements,” they stated.

  • FULL LIST: All Allegations made against US rapper, P Diddy

FULL LIST: All Allegations made against US rapper, P Diddy

Sean Combs, known as P Diddy or Puff Daddy, the rapper and music mogul credited with launching the careers of major stars, has been in the spotlight recently for legal troubles.

Combs was arrested on Monday, September 16, by federal agents in New York after facing months of civil lawsuits alleging sex trafficking, sexual abuse and rape.

Combs, who was denied bail twice, is being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn.

According to The Independent, federal prosecutors in a newly unsealed indictment accuse Combs and his associates of coercing and abusing women to fulfil his sexual desires, including forcing victims into recorded sexual activities, which he allegedly called “Freak Outs.”

Combs’ lawyer, Marc Agnifilo, called the rapper “an innocent man.”

“We are disappointed with the decision to pursue what we believe is an unjust prosecution of Mr. Combs by the U.S. Attorney’s Office,” Agnifilo told The Independent via email.

Sky News reports that the charges relate to sex trafficking, drug possession and firearms offences.

The three major charges outlined by the Southern District of New York in a legal indictment are racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking by force, fraud, or coercion and transportation to engage in prostitution.

The indictment, as reported by Sky News, alleges the following:

    • Combs is alleged to have “abused, threatened, and coerced women and others around him to fulfil his sexual desires, protect his reputation, and conceal his conduct” dating back to at least 2008.
    • The 54-year-old is accused of leveraging his employees, resources, and industry influence to establish a “criminal enterprise whose members and associates engaged in, and attempted to engage in, among other crimes, sex trafficking, forced labour, kidnapping, arson, bribery, and obstruction of justice”.
      • He is accused of coercing female victims and male sex workers into participating in drug-fueled sexual acts, referred to as “Freak Offs,” according to the legal document.
      • According to Sky News, the document mentions “Freak Offs” 16 times, describing them as elaborate, staged sexual performances that Combs orchestrated, directed, and often recorded, while also engaging in the acts.
      • Prosecutors claim that victims were administered controlled substances during events that sometimes lasted for days, keeping them “obedient and compliant.” Combs allegedly subjected them to “physical, emotional, and verbal abuse” to compel their participation.
      • The indictment further alleges that Combs and his business associates “engaged in acts of violence, threats of harm, both physical and reputational and verbal abuse.” These acts reportedly included kidnapping and arson when individuals who witnessed the alleged abuse challenged his authority or reputation.

The Independent also published all the allegations against Sean Combs, noting that lawsuits against the rapper began on November 16, 2023, when he was sued by singer and dancer Casandra Ventura, also known as Cassie, his former partner, who alleged years of abuse.

      Allegations

      • Casandra ‘Cassie’ Ventura

R&B singer Casandra Ventura, also known as Cassie, filed a 2023 lawsuit accusing Combs of subjecting her to a decade-long pattern of trafficking, rape, and physical abuse.

A 2016 surveillance footage, obtained by CNN on May 17, 2024, appeared to validate aspects of Ventura’s allegations, capturing Combs chasing and violently assaulting her in a Los Angeles hotel corridor.

In a swift resolution, Ventura settled the lawsuit with Combs for an undisclosed sum just one day after filing, stating she preferred to “resolve this matter amicably.”

    • Derrick Lee Cardello-Smith

Derrick Lee Cardello-Smith, a 51-year-old inmate, filed a lawsuit alleging Combs drugged and sexually assaulted him at a party three decades ago, as revealed in court documents obtained by Detroit’s Metro Times.

Combs’ failure to attend a virtual hearing resulted in a $100 million default judgment in favour of Cardello-Smith on September 9.

    • Rodney ‘Lil Rod’ Jones

A February 2024 lawsuit in New York accuses Combs of subjecting music producer Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones to a prolonged campaign of sexual harassment, intimidation and exploitation.

Jones, who worked for Combs from September 2022 to November 2023, alleged unwanted advances by Combs’ associates and forced into encounters with sex workers hired by Combs.

    • Joie Dickerson-Neal

Joie Dickerson-Neal filed a lawsuit in November 2023, accusing Combs of drugging, sexually assaulting, and secretly recording the assault without her consent in 1991, while she was a college student, according to NBC News, citing court documents.

    • Crystal McKinney

Following the release of CCTV footage showing Combs attacking Ventura, former model Crystal McKinney filed a lawsuit in May alleging Combs sexually assaulted her at his New York City recording studio in 2003.

    • April Lampros

Shortly after McKinney’s lawsuit, April Lampros came forward alleging Combs sexually assaulted her multiple times between 1995 and the early 2000s, following their initial meeting while she was a student.

    • Dawn Richard

Dawn Richard, a former bandmate, sued Sean “Diddy” Combs in New York federal court, alleging years of physical and sexual abuse starting in 2009.

Richard accuses Combs of withholding payment, groping, making lewd comments, physical violence, and death threats, also claiming he enabled the sexual exploitation of underage girls and abused singer Cassie.

Combs has denied all allegations and vowed to defend himself, pleading not guilty to all charges.

“Diddy is an imperfect person but is not criminal,” Combs’ lawyer had said.

“To his credit, Mr Combs has been nothing but cooperative with this investigation and he voluntarily relocated to New York last week in anticipation of these charges.

“Please reserve your judgment until you have all the facts. These are the acts of an innocent man with nothing to hide, and he looks forward to clearing his name in court,” his lawyer added.
