The Federal Court has ordered the release of singer, Speed Darlington also known as Akpi awaiting a heariAdd New Postng on a defamation case in court.

This order from the court follows a few hours after socialite, Cubana Chief Priest vowed to help Speed Darlington regain his freedom amid ongoing beef with singer Burna Boy.

He noted that they’d be coming to ensure that he is released from custody.

According to reports, the court orders Abubakar Marshal, Esq. to act as surety for Akpi.

The lawyer of the singer, Deji Adeyanju, confirmed the new changes by the court in an X post on Monday, emphasizing the importance of the court ruling.

He wrote, “The Federal High Court has directed the Nigerian Police to comply with the order to release Speed Darlington immediately pending the hearing of the substantive matter. “The court further directs Abubakar Marshal, Esq. to stand as surety to Akpi.”

A video has emerged online, showing Nollywood actor, Zubby Michael involved in a physical altercation with popular comedian, Isbaeu on his podcast, ‘On Curiosity Made Me Ask’.

This comes on the heels of Zubby Michael’s recent reconciliation with Angela Okorie, marking the end of their highly publicized feud.

On Isbaeu’s podcast, the comedian questioned Zubby Michael why he doesn’t engage in actual armed robbery instead of portraying it in movies.

However, the conversation took an unexpected turn when Isbaeu referred to Zubby Michael as an “Asaba superstar”, prompting the actor to stand up and engage in a physical altercation with the comedian.

Popular social media personality, Martins Otse, aka VDM, was roundly criticised during the week for claiming that the alarm he raised last week about N180m missing from an account maintained by his non-governmental organisation was a “prank” on Nigerians.

In a social media post early in the week, he said, “80 per cent of the people that use social media are dumb, and the whole thing that happened with the N180m is a clear opportunity to show you. I deliberately did it just to show you people that you are stupid. No money is missing; my money is secured.

“The way people are so excited about bad news is really sad. I told my website guy, shut down the website, let us use these people to catch cruise (sic). Nobody bothered to ask for evidence. They just went with what is being said. I am so happy I did this.”

However, his claims generated a lot of uproar, with many lambasting him for trivialising something so weighty and playing on the intelligence of people. This was even as some alleged that VDM was trying to do something shady with the money but had to change course because of the disbelief that greeted the initial statement.

Recall that some months back, many Nigerians, including Don Jazzy, had donated millions of naira to VDM, who stated that he would use the money “to improve the quality of education in Nigeria’s public schools”.

A comedian and former Big Brother Naija housemate, Dee One, stated that he would submit a petition to the Inspector General of Police to investigate the missing money claims, alleging that some people had been arrested over the issue. In a video posted on social media, he said, “Do you know the tension that your prank caused the Nigerian community in Ghana? Do you know the effect it had on Zenith Bank (the bank hosting the account)? VDM is smart but Nigerians are starting to see the kind of person he is. If God has blessed you with a platform, don’t use it for things like that…you that has plenty enemies already.”

He also maintained that VDM should share a bank statement from the time the account was opened.

A social media user, Kola Jinadu, wrote, “What VDM did is highly insensitive and should not go unchallenged. How can you claim you are playing pranks over money that was given to you by members of the public for a particular cause? He owes the donors accountability and transparency over whatever happens with that money. If tomorrow, he says he wants to do something, how are we to take him serious, knowing that he could also later claim it is a prank? He can play whatever prank with his money but not with funds that were donated for a cause. That money is not his; it is only in his care as a public trust.”

Another netizen on Twitter, MaryJane Ocholo, argued that VDM caused a lot of fear and tension with his alleged prank. She wrote, “Do you know how many people became scared of what could happen to their money in banks. Nobody should be allowed to play such pranks that involve money. We all know how jittery some people can be, and the kind of panic that kind of thoughtless prank can cause among members of the public. That was distasteful abeg.”

Celebrity barman Pascal Okechukwu popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest and Afrobeats superstar Damini Ogulu also known as Burna Boy have become embroiled in a heated feud, sparking widespread attention online.

The drama began when Burna Boy made a cryptic Instagram post on Friday, allegedly referring to Cubana Chief Priest as “Owerri Rick Ross” and accused him of some illegality.

Burna wrote, “No forget say u be Azaman o And dem don gbe your plug wey him name na ‘Omo Igbo’ for ATL and na u be next #OwerriRickyrozay.’

Many believe the jab was directed at the socialite due to his close friendship with singer Davido.

Cubana Chiefpriest responded on his own page, claiming that Burna Boy was simply pained.

He further mocked Burna Boy, alleging, “Diddy oil the fastest way to PTSD. you never see anything, you and your bend down collect Grammy.”

Cubana Chief Priest also shared old videos of Burna Boy performing at one of his events. He claimed he paid Burna Boy ₦1 million in 2018 to perform as a backup artist at his birthday party, suggesting Burna’s current success is recent compared to his long-standing wealth.

He wrote , “Owerri Rick Ross, What a blessing !!!!. See where dem dey rate me put. Me & Rosay #CpNosmall.

“2018 na 1m naira I pay you to perform as back up artist for my birthday. I get pictures & videos where you dey perform for me. I go lie for you.

‘We don dey chop this money before you meet us for queue be humble small boy.”

He also added “It’s so clear because how is it even possible that someone who brags to be so rich go dey live in so much pain. Wetin dey pain you ? Shebi na you be African princess. Only you rush bend down collect Grammy only you still dey cry. Oil full your Grammy we know how painful it was that’s why you want everybody to feel the pain with you. You really suffer I understand you.”

Cubana Chief Priest had also claimed, in one of his posts, that Burna Boy was owing debt for jewelry.

He wrote, “The Ferrari’s. The London jewelers debt. I’m coming. I have long waited for this moment. Osubrileeee oooo”

Burna Boy clapped back, denying the allegations, asserting that he pays for all his purchases upfront.

Burna Boy wrote, “You don score yourself. Everybody in Lagos knows my style. all my shit paid for, sometimes cash sef. If not I for dey all the blogs by now for owing debts like your boss. Go to Cooscharis and service any of your stolen cars abeg I wan see something. “Rooozaaay Igbo voice”. Make I relax actually , I no want make you go jail.”

American singer Beyonce, has won a long standing legal battle to trademark her daughter’s name, Blue Ivy.

This was confirmed on December 31 by The Trademark Official Gazette, granting the global superstar exclusive rights to her daughter’s name, after 12 long years of legal battle.

The battle began in 2012 when Beyoncé and Jay-Z filed for the trademark shortly after Blue Ivy’s birth.

This was to prevent others from profiting off their daughter’s name.

The filing faced resistance from wedding planner Veronica Morales, who had used “Blue Ivy Events” for her business since 2009.

However, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office ruled in 2020 that the event company’s name and Blue Ivy’s name were distinct, dismissing Morales’ objections.

In 2023, Beyoncé renewed her trademark application but encountered another hurdle when a Wisconsin boutique claimed the “Blue Ivy” logo. After the boutique failed to oppose the filing, Beyoncé’s legal team proceeded, marking the final stages of her successful claim.
