Veteran Nollywood actor, Chiwetalu Agu, has publicly debunked rumours of his death, after widespread reports on social media falsely claimed that he had passed away.

The 67-year-old actor, known for his comic roles in movies, took to Instagram on Friday to address the speculation, reassuring his fans and family members that he remains alive and in good health.

Agu addresses Nigerians in viral video

In a video that quickly made the rounds online, Agu introduced himself with his traditional title while rubbishing the rumours about his death.

“Chief Chiwetalu Agu, okenmiri n’ezoru Oha 1 of Etiti Amokwe, Enugu State is not going to die anytime soon. Instead, I will be the one to bury my enemies. Na who dig pit go fall inside. Na who dig grave go fall inside. I am yet to carry my grandchildren, and I must do so in good health when my children are ready,” he declared.

He further urged his supporters to disregard any malicious claims, insisting that such posts were created for cheap attention. Agu added that if the fake report had come from a well-known blog, he would have sued for defamation and damages.

Previous celebrity death hoaxes

The clarification followed a false report by an online blogger that the Nollywood veteran had died, sparking confusion across social media. Many fans rushed to confirm the authenticity of the post before Agu personally stepped in to set the record straight.

This is not the first time Nigerian entertainers have been victims of such hoaxes. Several Nollywood stars have previously been falsely declared dead online, with the stories later debunked. Agu himself has been targeted multiple times in the past, a trend he described as disturbing and evidence of gullibility among some Nigerians in 2025.

Wife of legendary American singer and songwriter Akon, Tomeka Thiam has reportedly filed for divorce after nearly 29 years of marriage.

Recall that the couple tied the knot on September 15, 1996 and share a 17-year-old child.

According to a report from TMZ, Tomeka Thiam filed for divorce from Akon four days before their 29th wedding anniversary, citing irreconcilable differences.

Tomeka Thiam is reportedly seeking joint legal and physical custody of her 17-year-old child with Akon.

Additionally, she’s requesting spousal support, while blocking Akon from receiving any spousal support from her.

Notably Akon has been open about his personal life, including his relationships.

He has multiple children with different women, including Tomeka Thiam, and has been known to have complex relationships.

Popular Singer Young Jonn has shared insights into his personal life, revealing that he is currently not ready for a committed relationship.

During an appearance on the Way Up podcast with Angela Yee, the 30-year-old explained that while he appreciates love, he prefers to keep his interactions platonic rather than dedicate himself to one partner.

“Love is beautiful, but I’m not at a point where I can give that much of myself to a single person,” he said, adding that he avoids situations where he might not be able to provide the attention a partner deserves.

His comments come months after reports that his alleged relationship with Davido’s cousin, Adenike Adeleke (popularly known as Nikos Living), ended earlier this year.

Big Brother Naija season 10 housemate, Kola Omotosho has shared why he’s not interested in winning the reality TV show.

The 29-year-old reality TV star, Kola, made this revelation during a conversation with Bright Morgan, a fellow housemate, citing the pressure that comes with winning the show.

“I don’t want to win BBNaija. it has its own pressure“, He stated.

According to Kola, he hopes to make it to the finale of the reality TV show on October 5, 2025, where one lucky housemate will win the N150 million grand prize.

Notably, Kola has been one of the most talked-about housemates this season, stemming from his growing close relationship with Dede.

Afrobeat singer Seun Kuti has sparked renewed debate about Afrobeats, describing it as more of a “label” than a true music genre.

Speaking on The Beat 99.9 FM Lagos, Seun explained that the term “Afrobeats” is used loosely as a tag for music coming out of Africa, but not as a defined sound with strict rules.

According to him, most Afrobeats artists don’t even treat it like a genre. Instead, they freely experiment with different sounds, from Nigerian pop to dancehall, amapiano and even blues, switching styles whenever the vibe demands.

“I think Afrobeats is more of a title than a genre,” Seun said. “You can see Amapiano is the new Afrobeats. It’s the new thing in Afrobeats. So, Afrobeats is just a generalisation, a title to identify something from Africa.”

The outspoken son of Afrobeat legend, Fela Kuti, added that even top names in the industry do not approach Afrobeats as a strictly defined category.

“They could do a dancehall track today, switch to amapiano tomorrow, and then drop a Nigerian pop song. That’s why I don’t think Afrobeats is a genre. It’s just a title,” he said.

Seun’s take has sparked mixed reactions online, with fans debating whether Afrobeats is indeed a genre or simply a movement representing Africa’s diverse sound.

Recently evicted Big Brother Naija housemate, Ivatar, has shared her experience in the house, claiming that some fellow contestants intentionally tried to overshadow her.

Speaking after her eviction, Ivatar revealed that her colleagues perceived her as a “threat,” which, according to her, led them to work towards her downfall.

She opened up on this while speaking in an interview with Classic FM.

“People were trying to dim my light and I saw myself as a threat, regardless of what they say whether it’s no or yes, you weren’t doing enough work. I will still give myself a pat at the back for that.”

Notably, the couple’s relationship has been in the public eye since their engagement in April 2022.

It would be recalled that Phyna’s sister passed away on Sunday after she battled for life following injuries she sustained from Dangote’s truck.

Saida Boj opined that to express contrition, the least the businessman can do is to take responsibility for Ruth’s children’s school fees.

She remarked on how their mother had been robbed from them, and they wouldn’t grow up to know her as they should.

“I want to tell this to Dangote as a person. I feel that the least you can do is to train Ruth’s children through school and make sure they get good jobs after school. That is the only way to say sorry. This is a young girl who just finished school, who just finished serving just crushed away by one of your drivers.
