Iyanya clears the air on allegations of dumping Wizkid for Davido

Afrobeats star Iyanya has addressed claims suggesting he has taken sides in the ongoing feud between two of Nigeria’s biggest music exports, Wizkid and Davido.

The controversy reignited after an X user, @Akubasteeny, accused Iyanya of switching allegiance from Wizkid, with whom he previously collaborated on the hit song Sexy Mama, to Davido, following his recent public support for the DMW boss’s music.

“I thought Wiz was your friend. I am just wondering why you switched side and turned into Davido’s boy,” the user wrote.

In a swift response, Iyanya dismissed the insinuation, stating that he harbours no animosity toward any of his colleagues and remains a supporter of all Nigerian artists, regardless of fan-imposed divisions.

“I don’t have an issue with any artiste. I played Wizkid’s Made in Lagos and Morayo, the same way I play every other artiste’s songs. Most artistes won’t say this, but we are the first to listen to other artistes’ projects when they drop. It’s part of our work to stay updated on the sound and the game” he wrote.

Iyanya further highlighted his consistent support for other artists, referencing his habit of playing new music introduced to him by talent manager Ubi Franklin. He also mentioned that he still maintains a good relationship with Burna Boy, saying they recently partied together at a club.

“I dey play all and I tell you, me no get enemy o. So make una stop this friend or no friend. Na una fans dey try dey push agenda wey no dey,” he added.

Iyanya’s clarification comes amid heightened tensions between Wizkid and Davido, whose on-and-off feud has often spilt onto social media, drawing their fanbases into heated online debates.

Wizkid vs Davido: Iyanya roasted for spelling ‘Morayo’ as ‘Maroya’

Afrobeats singer Iyanya has faced another round of criticism after erroneously spelling ‘Morayo’ while addressing allegations that he has switched loyalty from Wizkid to Davido.

The controversy stems from the longstanding tension between the two Afrobeats giants, which has seen fans of both camps engaging in fierce debates online.

    iyanya

The backlash began after an X user accused Iyanya of abandoning his friendship with Wizkid to support Davido more openly. In response, the Sexy Mama crooner attempted to clear the air by emphasising that he supports all artists equally, naming several albums he claims to listen to regularly.

However, while making his point, Iyanya mistakenly referred to Wizkid’s tribute album Morayo, named after the singer’s late mother, as “Maroya.”

“I played Wizkid’s Made in Lagos and Maroya, the same way I play every other artiste songs,” he wrote, a typo that fans quickly latched onto.

Social media was immediately awash with reactions, many of them mocking Iyanya’s error and questioning his sincerity.

@Gwan_123 wrote, “Maroya 😭😂😂😂😂 you go just know say na on mute e play am.”

Another X user @Rozaycharm_ added, “Shey you know say you don unknowingly drop new banter material for 30Bingos?😭.”

@The_Good slammed, “Imagine you turn Big Wiz late lovely mum name Morayo to Maroya… you clearly know what you are doing, God go punish you.”

Another user, @Dizmarviz, joked, “Maroya the greatest I ever made. Thank you @Iyanya, you just gave us new ingredients for this cooking… This week go long.”

Iyanya eventually corrected the error by quoting the original post and spelling the album name correctly as Morayo. However, the backlash did not let up, with some fans continuing to drag him.

An X user, @Kellybonito_ jested, “No worry, we understand. Even me sef no dey remember that album name. The album too useless 🤣🤣.”

@The_Good later followed up with, “Thanks for the correction and coming back to your senses, we forgive you… no artists way go fuck with Wiz way we FC nor fit put for he place ❤️.”

Despite his efforts to calm the storm, Iyanya’s slip-up has further fueled fan tensions in the ever-persistent Wizkid vs. Davido rivalry saga.

  • United, Juve table €20m-per-year Osimhen offers

United, Juve table €20m-per-year Osimhen offers

English Premier League side Manchester United and Italian Serie A giants Juventus are pushing hard to sign Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen ahead of the summer transfer window, as both clubs are said to have tabled a € 20m-per-year deal for the player, Saturday PUNCH reports.

According to Turkish journalist Ali Naci Kßçßk, Manchester United have offered Osimhen a contract worth £660,000-a-week to join the club this summer.

Both Juventus and United have tabled an offer worth ÂŁ17.1m per year net, which works out at around ÂŁ330,000-a-week after tax. That would be ÂŁ660,000-a-week before tax in the UK, making him their highest-paid player.

The Red Devils are in the market for a new striker ahead of the new season after struggling to score goals, with Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee both failing to have the desired impact at Old Trafford following their big-money moves in recent campaigns.

Osimhen has emerged as one of the top targets for the transfer window, with the Nigerian international expected to leave Napoli, and it has now been revealed that INEOS chiefs have made their offer already.

According to reports from Turkey, Galatasaray are desperate to keep hold of Osimhen following his loan spell this season, but financially, it looks like a difficult deal for them.

There is a high possibility that Osimhen will say goodbye (to Galatasaray), but there is no decision made at the moment,” Küçük said.

“Juventus and Manchester United clearly want Osimhen. Fenerbahçe tested the waters at the beginning of the season and in the mid-season transfer window, but there is no way.

“Osimhen asked for €15m from Galatasaray. Juventus and Manchester’s offer is a net €20m [£660,000-a-week.”

After joining Galatasaray on loan at the start of the season, Osimhen has had a phenomenal season in Turkey this year with 29 goals and six assists in 33 appearances for the Istanbul club.

The 26-year-old currently receives a net salary of around €10m per season, although some outlets in Italy report the figure to be closer to €11m.

Galatasaray are covering €6m of that amount for the duration of his season-long loan, meaning that Napoli are presumably still picking up the remainder of his contract.

  • McTominay fires Napoli level with Inter as Conte slams club owner

McTominay fires Napoli level with Inter as Conte slams club owner

Scott McTominay headed Napoli level on points with Inter Milan at the top of Serie A with the only goal in Saturday’s 1–0 win at Monza, but coach Antonio Conte lashed out at owner Aurelio De Laurentiis with angry post-match comments.

The Scotland midfielder nodded home his 10th goal in all competitions this season from Giacomo Raspadori’s cross in the 72nd minute, saving Napoli’s blushes after a drab display in northern Italy.

McTominay’s third goal in a week boosted Napoli’s bid for a second league title in three seasons and piled pressure on reigning champions Inter, who visit high-flying Bologna on Easter Sunday.

Beyond that goal, Conte’s team created little against the division’s worst team. Monza are 12 points from safety with five matches remaining and appear set for relegation.

“It’s a match that seems like it should be easy, but the prize up for grabs is so important that there is a lot of pressure,” said Conte.

“A lot of these boys are in a head-to-head (for a league title) for the first time. And it’s an unexpected head-to-head… Just to be there is unexpected and extraordinary.”

Conte continued to fuel rumours of his departure at the end of his first season as Napoli coach, after raising eyebrows on Friday with open frustration over the January sale of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

    ‘Not stupid’

De Laurentiis later remarked that Conte should have waited until the end of the season before making such comments, prompting a visibly irritated Conte to respond while speaking to broadcaster DAZN.

“You have to live in the present… the people want to win and are ambitious. I’m open to everything, but we need to see where we are,” said Conte, when asked about his future.

“I’m happy in Naples and I’m working for fans who give me something emotionally. That’s very important. But you know that whoever hires me knows I bring with me expectations.

“People hire me and think, ‘You have to finish first or second, even if you finished 10th the year before, and you have to fight for the title. Qualifying for Europe isn’t enough’.

“I can handle all of that, but I’m not stupid if there aren’t the resources in place to achieve that.”

Conte also criticised the pitches at Napoli’s Castel Volturno training ground, saying they were supposed to be relaid. He suggested the club’s failure to do so was behind recent calf injuries – the latest affecting Kvaratskhelia’s replacement, David Neres.

Regardless of where Conte is next season, he and Napoli have a strong chance to win the Scudetto. After Easter, they face only one team in the top half of the table – 10th-placed Torino – and have no other commitments.

    Como eye safety

Meanwhile, Inter face a packed schedule, with the second leg of their Coppa Italia semi-final against AC Milan on Wednesday, followed by a Champions League semi-final clash with Barcelona.

Inter will remain top on goal difference even if they lose to Bologna, who are chasing a Champions League place. Should both teams finish level on points, the title will be decided by a play-off.

Earlier, Assane Diao fired Como towards safety with a brace in his side’s impressive 3–0 win over struggling Lecce, who sit one place and two points above the relegation zone.

Como are 13th with 39 points, 15 above the drop zone with five matches remaining in their first Serie A season in over two decades.

Diao has been instrumental to the club’s near-certain survival, scoring eight goals since arriving from Real Betis in January, when Como invested heavily in new players to avoid relegation.

Later, Roma take on Verona hoping to move within two points of Juventus, who sit fourth and travel to Parma on Monday.

  • American salesman married to Cross River woman, Why I may relocate to Nigeria

American salesman married to Cross River woman, Why I may relocate to Nigeria

An American citizen, Aaron Price, speaks with BIODUN BUSARI about his love for his Nigerian wife, Blessing, and his desire to live in Nigeria for 15 years in exchange for citizenship by naturalisation, among other issues

    Where are you from?

I was born in California, United States, but my family and I now live in Utah. I’m 33 years old. I came to the state of Utah to study, and I’ve stayed here for 12 years. That’s where I met my wife, Blessing. In terms of what I do, my background was as a professional musician, but I’ve since transitioned my career into software sales.

Are you a content creator going by many posts on your TikTok account?

My wife is the content creator, but I’ve participated and been involved. She dragged me into content creation as we say in America ‘kicking and screaming.’ So, I’m a content creator by force.

    How did you both meet?

I always tell people it was a COVID love story. We met in June 2020. A lot of things were locked down and there were no social gatherings of more than 10 people. So, it was very hard to meet people. I got on a dating app and there was one used by members of my faith.

So, we met on a dating app; we met for a date after a while. Though I almost screwed it up and she was ready to block me after the first date. I persuaded her and honestly, even within a few weeks, I knew I wanted to marry her. She has tremendous character. She loves God; she’s a very strong, kind, and intelligent person.

She’s the kind of person that I knew I wanted to build a life with when I learnt about some of the struggles she went through. She was going to school and working full-time in the United States while maintaining a high-grade point average. She did this to pay for her father’s medical treatment at home because he was dying of cancer. That impressed me about her.

Did you face challenges from either of the families when both of you planned to get married?

Some people would face that, but it wasn’t my experience. I’m fortunate that I was raised by a family that taught us to treat people the same regardless of their nationalities. I share the same faith with my wife and that is the most important to my parents and my family as a whole.

They knew we would raise our children with the same values. So, we didn’t experience any opposition or objection. Her family has been incredibly welcoming and treated me beautifully. I couldn’t have asked for better treatment from my in-laws.

Why did you go online about the requirement that male foreigners have to live in Nigeria for 15 years before getting Nigerian citizenship despite marrying Nigerian women?

I had just learnt about it. I was trying to read as much as I could about it on the Ministry of Interior’s website. I saw different types of statuses for applying for citizenship. I was just very surprised to learn that men who marry Nigerian women are treated differently than foreign women who marry Nigerian men.

Can you live in Nigeria for 15 years to get a Nigerian passport?

It’s hard but possible at the same time. Though it’s a great commitment to live in Nigeria for 15 years, I would certainly be willing to try. My wife and I have talked in great depth about the possibility of living in Nigeria. Personally, some other considerations are making us need to wait before we do that.

It might be a few years before we move to Nigeria. However, I’m very interested in the idea, especially if I could continue to work for an American company remotely. I would like to consider it because it’s attractive and the quality of life in Nigeria.

What did you mean by the quality of life in Nigeria?

Well, I’m not a special person; so, I wouldn’t ask for a request to be made on my behalf. But, the only reason I think this issue is important is based on equality and fairness in the treatment of Nigerian people. Nevertheless, I would say making such a request is not only about me but also about providing equal access for people to take part in Nigerian traditions and culture.

My wife and I thought about this because we want our kids to grow up learning about their mother’s culture and traditions. We, male foreigners, should be treated the same as a female foreigner is treated when she marries a Nigerian man. There shouldn’t be discrimination against Nigerian women simply because they were born women and for marrying male foreigners.

In the video, you made some remarks in Nigerian Pidgin, how long have you been learning?

It’s funny that some Nigerians like to speak like Americans when they move to the US but my wife is not like that. She is a very proud Nigerian. She loves her culture and traditions and is proud of them. She loves Nigeria and its people. She loves the way she speaks, so she doesn’t feel the need to adjust just because she doesn’t sound the same as I do,

So, it wasn’t so much that she taught me Pidgin so much as speaking in Pidgin to her friends and I wanted to know what she was saying. I just paid attention; I paid very close attention and I picked it up over time but I’m still learning Pidgin. I would say I understand much better than I speak but I just think it’s very impressive that my wife speaks many languages.

When we visited Calabar where my wife is from, I heard her speak Akwa Ibom, I heard her speak Efik. I heard her speak her native language. And she speaks amazing English. So, I just think it’s very impressive I look up to her ability to speak many languages because that’s something that Americans don’t do so much.

It’s something I think we should try to do more. We Americans are so great and I think I should speak our language and any other language other than what I studied in school.  I’ve forgotten everything but I want to learn how to speak Pidgin well so that I can say a lot of things without people around me knowing what we’re saying with my wife in America or abroad.

What other languages can you speak apart from Pidgin?

I just learned a couple of phrases of Assiga language where she comes from when we visited the village. I could say a couple of small things. Apart from that, I don’t speak any other language, and I wouldn’t even say I speak Pidgin well. But I want to learn it.

When was the last time you visited Nigeria?

We visited the Calabar Carnival in December of 2023. We were there for over a month.

What were the things you liked about Nigeria when you visited?

Well, the first thing that surprised me was just how welcoming the people were. I couldn’t believe how much attention they paid to me, because I’m a nobody. It was fun. They were very curious to learn about us and to learn about Americans. I loved the food. I chop rice, soups, and akara (bean cake). Every night we go out for suya (pepper-sprayed grilled beef). I think it was my favourite.

Do you know what they call japa in Nigeria?

I’ve heard the term, but if you can remind me of what it is.

It’s a brain drain where there is a mass exodus of Nigerians to developed countries in search of greener pastures. So, what’s your perspective of Nigerians coming to America for better opportunities?

Yes, there is opportunity in countries like America because of the strength of the economy. There are so many jobs. But I don’t think that the quality of life is necessarily better here (US). There are maybe a few areas where that’s true. But the problem, whether it’s America or the UK or countries in Europe, it’s very expensive to live in these countries. So many people come here and they struggle.

They hustle and sweat their life out only to find out that they haven’t got ahead. They don’t have savings. They don’t have a retirement. They can’t take a break from working without financial ruin.

So, I think that is very true that sometimes people think life will magically be easier in America or the UK, but it’s not really true. I think the only real reason that this happens is because of the strength of currencies. It’s because the dollar is strong.
