FBI, EOCO orders seizure of Shatta Wale’s 2019 Lamborghini over criminal links

Ghana’s Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has seized a 2019 Lamborghini Urus from popular dancehall artiste, Shatta Wale, following a request from the FBI and the United States Justice Department.

The luxury vehicle, found at the singer’s Trassaco Valley home in Accra, was linked to criminal proceeds of Nana Kwabena Amuah, a man currently serving a prison sentence in the US for financial crimes.

In a statement released by EOCO’s acting director, Raymond Archer, the agency said the seizure happened in June after a lawful search conducted by its Surveillance and Asset Recovery Unit.

Shatta Wale, whose real name is Charles Nii Armah, reportedly asked EOCO officers not to make the operation public, claiming the car was vital to his brand.

He later agreed to hand over the car voluntarily. EOCO confirmed the operation happened peacefully and without incident.

The agency explained that the vehicle is now in their custody and steps are being taken to return it to the US as part of Amuah’s $4.7 million restitution.

Shatta Wale and a former senior officer of Ghana’s National Signal Bureau are now being treated as persons of interest and are expected to assist with further investigations.

The agency also said a final report may be submitted to the FBI and US Justice Department.

Reacting on Facebook, Shatta Wale criticized EOCO’s use of armed officers during the search, accusing the agency of humiliating him.

Officers of the Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit, Zone ‘B’ in Kaduna, have intercepted 250 bags of smuggled foreign rice concealed inside a fuel tanker.

The operation, which took place on Saturday, August 3, 2025, followed credible intelligence received by Customs operatives along the Yauri-Kontagora road in Kebbi State.

The suspicious DAF tanker was stopped and escorted to the Unit’s headquarters in Kaduna for inspection.

According to a statement issued by the Unit’s Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent Saidu Nuruddeen, the rice still under import restriction was cleverly hidden in the tanker, which is typically used for transporting petroleum products.

The Acting Comptroller of the Unit, AM Alkali, confirmed that the duty paid value of the seized rice is ₩20.51 million.

“Our officers acted on actionable intelligence, intercepted the truck, and discovered 250 bags of foreign parboiled rice concealed inside,” Alkali stated. “This is a clear attempt to outsmart law enforcement, but our operatives acted swiftly and professionally.”

Zone ‘B’ is one of the largest Customs enforcement zones in Nigeria, covering 10 states and the Federal Capital Territory, including Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Jigawa, Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, Niger, Kwara, and Kogi.

Alkali praised the operatives for their vigilance and noted that the interception reflects the success of the Unit’s intelligence-driven approach to border enforcement.

In a related operation, the Unit also handed over large volumes of unregistered pharmaceutical products and hazardous chemicals to relevant regulatory bodies.

On July 17, 2025, officials turned over 58,740 sachets of unapproved medicaments and 27 cartons of banned Analgin injections to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).

Additionally, three sacks containing 990 pieces of Riodin chemical were handed over to the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA), due to their potential environmental and health risks.

During the briefing, Alkali also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for extending the tenure of the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.

He described the extension as a recognition of Adeniyi’s reform-focused leadership and efforts to modernize the Customs Service.

“He is a visionary leader who has brought innovation and professionalism to the Service. This extension is a strong vote of confidence in his leadership,” Alkali said.

Tinubu reacts, hails Nafisa for making Nigeria proud globally

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended Nigerian student Nafisa Abdullah Aminu for her outstanding performance at the 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals held in London, United Kingdom.

In a statement released on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described the girl as “exceptional young Nigerian” who showcased the best of the country’s potential on the world stage.

Nafisa, a 17-year-old student of Nigerian Tulip International College (NTIC) in Yobe State, emerged as the overall best in English language skills, beating over 20,000 participants from 69 countries, including native English speakers.

President Tinubu praised her brilliance and expressed optimism about the country’s future, stating, “The nation’s future is much brighter with many of its youth as repositories of excellence.”

He also commended the schools that nurtured such talent, saying their efforts reflect the strength and potential of Nigeria’s educational system.

Alongside Nafisa, other brilliant students like Rukayya Ashiru and Hadiza Ibrahim also made Nigeria proud at the global competition.

The President recognized all three for their impressive achievements and noted that their success highlights the growing global presence of Nigerian academic excellence.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to improving access to education, Tinubu cited the launch of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) as a key step towards removing financial barriers for students seeking higher education.

Meanwhile, former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Ali Pantami, has called on the Federal Government to celebrate Nafisa’s achievement in the same way national athletes are honoured.

Pantami, in a post on his official X handle, urged the government to reward Nafisa with $100,000, a three-bedroom flat, and a national honour, just as it did for the Super Falcons and D’Tigress.

He further recommended similar recognition for Nafisa’s English teacher, stressing the importance of celebrating both talent and mentorship. Pantami praised the student’s success as a product of “dedication, discipline, and a strong support system from her family and school.”

He concluded by urging the presidency to invite Nafisa and her teacher for official recognition, stating that educational achievements deserve just as much national celebration as sporting victories.

    #BBNaijaDay11: Between vibes and game

Kola opened up about feeling sidelined by Dede and Imisi and Isabella didn’t sugar-coat their advice. Isabella called Dede a game player, while Imisi told Kola to stop entertaining what wasn’t serving him. Tough love, but maybe just what he needed.

Kola is growing increasingly frustrated with Dede. Despite knowing she has someone outside the house, he admitted to noticing that she spends more time with other male housemates, something he finds unsettling. Determined to respect himself, Kola told Mide and later, Bright Morgan that he intends to step back from Dede emotionally. Mide didn’t offer much on her end but passed on that Dede had suggested a conversation might help clear the air. Still, the tension lingers.

Elsewhere, Isabella and Imisi offered their unfiltered takes. Isabella believes Dede is playing a game and Kola, feeling fed up, declared he was too old for the emotional rollercoaster and wouldn’t entertain her advances any longer. Isabella also relayed that Otega thinks Dede is pretending to be tough while hiding a softer side. Imisi advised him to give Dede space and focus on someone else.

In a quiet moment with Bright, Kola revealed that more than anything, he simply wants someone to connect with in the house. Bright Morgan asked him if he plans to stop speaking with Dede and he said he won’t cut her off but he also won’t extend himself any longer.

  • Otedola — Banks sent pretty ladies to woo me for deposits

Otedola — Banks sent pretty ladies to woo me for deposits

Billionaire businessman, Femi Otedola, has revealed how banks once deployed “bewitching ladies” to secure his deposits and loans when his business empire was flourishing.

Otedola made the disclosure in his forthcoming memoir, ‘Making It Big: Lessons from a Life in Business,’ published by FO Books and scheduled for release on August 18, 2025.

In excerpts from the book seen by TheCable, the oil magnate detailed how a series of financial crises including the global crash in crude oil prices and the devaluation of the naira left his businesses deeply indebted and under immense pressure.

“All told, I lost more than US$480 million to the plunge in oil prices, US$258 million through the devaluation of the naira, US$320 million because of accruing interest, and another US$160 million when the stocks crashed.

“It was devastating, like a terrible nightmare, but a nightmare would have been better: day would break, and I would wake up. There was no waking up from this,” Otedola wrote.

He recounted how drastically his fortunes changed, saying, “One moment, I was the darling of the banks, who did everything in the world to court me, do business with me, give me loans, take deposits from me.

“They would send bewitching ladies to make their offers more convincing, and now I was waking up to the sight of hefty, barrel-chested men standing menacingly in front of my gate, waiting for the moment I’d step out of my compound.”

Otedola broke into the Nigerian mega business scene with Zenon Petroleum which grew from selling diesel in drums to owning the largest share of the local market.

He also acquired African Petroleum in the downstream market and rebranded it to Forte Oil Plc, at a time one of the highest performing in the stock market.

However, a diesel shipment he ordered in 2008 when crude oil was $147/barrel did not arrive until the price had crashed to $40, plunging him into massive debt.

As a result of falling forex inflow, the naira was also devalued from N120/dollar to N167 in 2009 presenting Otedola with a double problem which include low diesel price and high dollar liability.
