No fewer than 21 suspects have been arrested by the Lagos State Government during a coordinated surveillance operation conducted on Saturday in the Ikoyi, Victoria Island, and Lekki-Ajah areas of the state.

In a statement on X.com, the state Commissioner for the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, said the operation was to tackle the menace of miscreants and destitutes causing nuisance in those axes.

He wrote, “Coordinated surveillance was today carried out to checkmate the menace of miscreants and nuisance caused by destitutes across Ikoyi, VI and Lekki-Ajah corridor.

“Awolowo way, Alfred Rewane road in Ikoyi and the Lekki-Ajah express way, were monitored all day.

“Three ex-convicts, one internet stalker, plus 17 other suspected miscreants and persons dealing in the illegal sale of petroleum products along the roads were arrested during the operation.”

He added that the operation also led to the recovery of substances suspected to be Indian hemp, and gallons of fuel.

Wahab noted that the suspects will be arraigned in court accordingly.

PUNCH reported on Friday that in a bid to restore sanity and cleanliness to the streets of Lagos, operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps arrested 12 miscreants following surveillance operations in several areas of Lagos state.
